St Edmund's College, Cambridge

All former students at St Edmund's College are entitled to the following benefits:

St Edmund's Alumni Society

Former students of the College are automatically members of St Edmund'ss Alumni Society. St Edmund's Alumni Society exists to promote good fellowship among members of St Edmund's Alumni Society and to encourage non-resident members to maintain links with the College and with each other. The St Edmund's Alumni Society AGM takes place before the annual Alumni Dinner held in College towards the end of September each year. Elections to the St Edmund's Alumni Society Committee take place at the AGM. St Edmund's Alumni Society can provide support to those alumni wishing to arrange social events for alumni in any country.

Dining Privileges

Former students of the College may have either lunch or dinner in College at the expense of St Edmund's Alumni Society up to three times in any one academic year. They must book at least one day in advance (7 days in the case of Guest Nights) by contacting the Development Secretary. They may bring a guest on each occasion at their own expense at the guest rate (+VAT) for non-members of the College published annually in the Blue Book (Notes for Members). Because of the competition for places at most Guest Nights, twelve places are reserved for members of St Edmund's Alumni Society (and their guests) at the last Guest Nights of the Michaelmas and Lent Terms and at one of the Guest Nights in July. On these occasions guests must be paid for in advance.

Private Dining

Alumni are welcome to hold private dinners in College. Arrangements can be made by contacting the Development Secretary who will put them in touch with the Catering Manager.

Accommodation/Guest Rooms

Alumni may stay in College guest rooms at their own expense for up to five nights per year, subject to availability. Only single rooms are available and the price is the same as that for guests of students described in the Blue Book (Notes for Members), currently up to £50 per day plus VAT. Longer stays can occasionally be arranged by negotiation with the Conference Manager. A snack breakfast is normally available in the Dining Hall on weekdays for those who have stayed in College overnight.

Publications

All alumni who have kept the College informed of their address can expect to receive, free of charge, a copy of St Edmund's Record on each occasion it is published. The Record will contain a review of each academical year. It will also provide a forum for alumni to publish articles, subject to acceptance by the keeper of the Record, and inform other members of the College of personal news including significant events in their lives. The next printed edition of the Record is expected to cover the period from 2004 onwards. At present no publication date has been set.

From time to time alumni who have given their email address to the College will receive notification of the electronic publication of The Edition that will contain news of current activities in the College as well as information about alumni and events to which alumni are invited. Issues of The Edition will be available on the College website.

MA - Master of Arts

Six years and one term after matriculation, alumni who have graduated BA are entitled to take their MA degree, either in person or in absentia. Information about Congregations at which MAs may be conferred is available from the Tutorial Office. The College holds lunches for graduands and their guests on most of the days when Congregations are held.

Weddings/Christenings

It may be possible to arrange a wedding or christening in the College chapel. Further information is available from the Dean. Subject to the availability of the Dining Hall or other appropriate room and appropriate staff it may be possible to arrange a reception. Further information is available from the Catering Manager. It should be noted that there are wooden floors in the Combination Room and Dining Hall where stiletto heels are not permitted.

College Events

Alumni are encouraged to attend the annual Alumni Dinner held in late September. In addition, tickets are available to alumni and their families, including children, to attend the annual Garden Party on a Sunday afternoon in June. Alumni and their guests are always welcome at the May Ball and should purchase tickets through the website.

All alumni are welcome at any social event organised for alumni by the College or by St Edmund's Alumni Society. Some events may be organised for members and former members of particular clubs and societies in the College. Such events are open to all former members subject to availability of tickets. At present, one such event that occurs annually is the 2020 Dinner for former members of the Boat Club.

Conference Facilities

Alumni are welcome to contact the Conference Manager for further information if they wish to plan a small or medium-sized conference in the College.

The College keeps a database of all members' addresses and other contact details. Please do stay in touch and let the College know of any changes in your contact details.
