Postgraduate studies
The various departments of the University are separate from the Colleges. Applicants state which department they are interested in and then list a number of colleges in order of preference. Applications are considered first by the relevant department and then by the first college of choice. A pool system operates so that applicants not accepted by their chosen colleges can be considered by others. Applicants are generally free to choose any college (although some colleges have restrictions with regards to certain subjects), all of which have their own unique character. Admission to read for a research degree will normally require at least a good upper-second class honours (or the equivalent) in the applicant's first degree. Applications for almost all taught and research higher degrees are dealt with by the Board of Graduate Studies. Details of postgraduate courses and general information about postgraduate studies at Cambridge University can be found in the on-line version of the Graduate Studies Prospectus. A few postgraduate courses are not dealt with by the Board of Graduate Studies. Entry to the courses of Clinical Medicine and for the Postgraduate Certificate of Education is by application to the respective Faculty or Department, although such people will still become members of a college. | ||||||||||||||||||
