The Chapel Schola, comprising between five and ten excellent singers, is unique among the Cambridge Colleges.

For outstanding singers with excellent sight-reading ability, who for whatever reason are unable to commit to the intense schedule of a bigger College choir, St Edmund’s Chapel Schola provides the ideal compromise: rehearsals are held immediately before services, which take place mostly on a weekday evening, three or four times a term. Repertoire consists mainly of Latin polyphony and chant, sung one-/two-to-a-part; contemporary accompanied works are also sung from time to time. Membership is open to all students of the University, and Choral Awards are available for students of St Edmund’s. There are also opportunities for conducting and organ-playing for those who wish.

Additional projects take place on occasion: in January 2018 the Schola sang in the first ever public performance of Sir James MacMillan’s Culham Motets, conducted by the composer himself in the College Chapel.
