Director of the Von Hügel Institute

Applications are invited for the position of the Director of the Von Hügel Institute (VHI) with effect from 1st October 2015

The Institute fosters social scientific and scholarly research in the relation of Christianity to society and the promotion of more just social structures. The work is undertaken in a broad ecumenical and interfaith context, but the institute also preserves and develops the Roman Catholic tradition of St Edmund’s College by research and analysis to inform Catholic social teaching, policy and practice.

The holder of the position will be responsible for the coordination and viability of the Institute’s activities, will have direct line responsibility for the VHI research staff and will support their career development. He/she will encourage interdisciplinary studies and seminars, and aim to enhance recognition of the work of the Institute both within the University of Cambridge and in the wider academic and policy world.

The successful candidate will be responsible to the College Council and will report direct to the Master. He/she will be of senior academic standing appropriate for election to a Fellowship of St Edmund’s College. The post is expected to take up to 8 hours per week and to be combined with another suitable academic appointment. There will be a target stipend pro rata to a professorial salary of £13,673 (20% of point 69 on the College Salary Scale).
