George Wilkes read History at Gonville & Caius College before completing a PhD at Cambridge on debate over European integration in Britain at the turn of the 1960s. An Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Divinity and Cambridge Theological Federation, he has lectured on Israeli-Palestinian and Jewish-Christian relations, on Jewish thought, and on contemporary European political history, in the universities of Cambridge and Birmingham and at the Centre for the Study of Jewish-Christian Relations in Cambridge. His latest research, the subject of a research programme at the Von Hugel Institute, focuses on just war theories and respect for international law in wartime, with a particular focus on the politics of human rights and humanitarian protection within the UN human rights institutions. He has also published work on religion and politics in Israeli-Palestinian relations, on the history of Jewish-Christian relations in the twentieth century, and on contemporary European history.
