Computer Science
The College is ideally situated for students of Computer Science, being one of the closest to the splendid new Computer Laboratory facility on the West Cambridge site. There are usually a number of undergraduates and affiliated students, with a similar number PhD students mixing freely in a supportive and cooperative environment. Computer Science students do well at St Edmund's, and the College prize for the best results in a final year examination has been won for the two out of the last three years by a "CompSci". In the first year, Computer Science students must also study some part of either the Natural Science Tripos or the Mathematics Tripos. In the second and third years, they study just Computer Science. The third year involves a substantial practical project and dissertation worth 25% of the final marks. The Director of Studies is associated with the Computer Laboratory and gives final year lectures. He is also an entrepeneur having founded two successful high-technology companies in Cambridge. Complementary to the formal academic teaching, St Edmund's Computer Science students will also gain an insight into the commercial world, in particular the mechanics and culture of start-up companies. | ||||||||||||||||||
