Each year St Edmund's accepts many new affiliated and mature undergraduates as well as LLM graduates. Students have to be 21 or over, most are in their 20s or early 30s, and come from a wide range of countries; many are from the UK/ EU and the rest from the Americas, Asia and Africa

Students are overseen by Dr Sean Butler who is Director of Studies and supervises Civil Law, and by Miss Catherine Dobson who is a barrister and also teaches Constitutional Law. The other undergraduate subjects are supervised by Fellows at other Cambridge Colleges, while graduate subjects are delivered by lectures offered in the Law Faculty.

We have an active and friendly College Law Society which invites speakers six to eight times each year, as well as training students for mooting; there is also an annual Christmas Lunch and Summer Party for Law students.

In addition to facilitating students' legal education, St Edmund's is able to offer paid internships to law students to work with international NGO CGIAR, which carries out agricultural research for developing countries. Over the last few years students have spent a month or more in Colombia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Peru, India, Mexico and at the headquarters in Italy.

St Edmund's maintains strong links with former students, including an annual Law Event for current and former Law students.

Student comments

"The reason I chose St Edmund's is because I wanted a college which had a large international student base and which was relatively small. It is for all of these reasons that I have found St Edmund's to be the perfect environment to study law. What is so endearing about Eddies is that the majority of students who come here have studied before. Therefore, particularily in the area of law, a law degree is the icing on the cake and the pressure to have perfect marks subsides and you have the time to engage in so many other aspects of University life. St Edmund's might not have the prestige that comes with the larger colleges but it does have a laid back atmosphere, a friendly student body and an ample choice of the co-curricular. It is precisely because the college is small that mature students are allowed a larger role to play in the deicisons affecting them. The Fellowship at Eddies do care about the students, not just about them getting firsts. I think these merits are what makes a place at Eddies covoted, in truth, eddies is cambridge's best kept secret."

"St Edmund's adopts a work-hard play-hard mentality. The terms are rigorous but there is a multitude of social activity. In addition to the traditional Boat Club and College bar, St. Edmund's is very proud to have a highly active Law Society and newly-founded Mooting Society. The Law Society organizes several guest dinners each term, giving students an opportunity to meet with esteemed members of the legal profession. There are also alumni events arranged at the beginning and end of each academic year, as well an annual Christmas Lunch and Summer Party. These events are always memorable and have also fostered relationships leading to full-time employment post- graduation.

Your affiliation with St. Edmunds extends beyond the duration of your degree, and the page http://www.st-edmunds.cam.ac.uk/alumni/law has been an effective mechanism for past students to communicate with each other and remain connected to the College.

The College you choose at Cambridge will be one of the most important decisions of your academic career. If you feel comfortable in a cosmopolitan and challenging, yet fun and supportive environment, then St. Edmund's might be for you. Best of luck!"
