April 2013 News from Fellows - Professor John Loughlin Professor John Loughlin, Director of the Von Hügel Institute, has been appointed to the Chaire Ganshof van der Meersch at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) for the academic year 2013-14. Anne, Duchess of Norfolk The College is sad to announce that Anne, Duchess of Norfolk, died peacefully at home earlier this week on 8th April 2013. A Funeral Service will be held at Arundel Cathedral on 19th April at 12 Noon (all welcome). Family flowers only, donations can be made to The Iain Rennie Hospice at Home Charity. Launch of the Report by the Von Hügel Institute in the House of Lords The Von Hügel Institute has prepared a major new report examining the origins and implications of the Government’s “Big Society” programme St Edmund’s Students in the Boat Race Twenty years after St Edmund’s first had students rowing in the Boat Race, we were again well represented on the Thames on Easter Sunday this year. March 2013 The Toby Jackman Research Fellowships The College has been fortunate to receive over £829,000 from the estate of Fellow Commoner Professor Toby Jackman, The capital is to be held as a permanent endowment, with income used to fund up to two Toby Jackman Research Fellowships. February 2013 Recent Publication by one of our Fellows Dr Michael Robson, an expert of Franciscanism, has recently published a book entitled 'The Greyfriars of England (1224-1539)'. January 2013 Alumni News - Monsignor Eamon Martin The college is pleased to announce that an alumnus, Monsignor Eamon Martin (MPhil., Education, 1998), a Priest in the diocese of Derry, has been appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Armagh by Pope Benedict XVI. in the 4 and 6 seats respectively when Cambridge's Light Blue's take on
Oxford on the 26th March 2011. Lent Bumps successes for St Edmund's! Both the Men's and Women's crews enjoyed success in this year's Lent
Bumps, with neither crew being bumped in the entirety of the competition. February 2011 Student awarded History Prize Charlotte A. Panofré, a PhD student at St Edmund's, has been awarded the Sir John Neale Prize in Tudor History by the Royal Historical Society and the Institute of Historical Research. Fall of the Rebel Angels: St Edmund's alumnus unveils new works St Edmund's alumnus and contemporary painter Tom de Freston (History of Art, 2005) has unveiled his new works inspired by John Milton's Paradise Lost at an open evening at on the 23rd January at Michaelhouse Chancel, Cambridge. In addition to this, in the past year, two other significant monographs have been released on his work, Reflections and Ekphrasis. In February, his latest paintings will be moved to the University Library to form part of a larger de Freston solo show. Lent Bumps Results In the Lent Bumps 2010 all three St Edmund's crews gained places on the river (M1 and M2, 3 places each; W1, 1 place).
