The Fourth G.L.S. Shackle Biennial Memorial Lecture will be held on Thursday 8th November 2012 at 4.00pm in the Law Faculty. A poster is available to download (pdf).

The invited guest speaker is Lord Robert Skidelsky.


Lord Skidelsky is Emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick. His three volume biography of the economist John Maynard Keynes (1983, 1992, 2000) received numerous prizes, including the Lionel Gelber Prize for International Relations and the Council on Foreign Relations Prize for International Relations. He is the author of the The World After Communism (1995) (American edition called The Road from Serfdom). He was made a life peer in 1991, and was elected Fellow of the British Academy in 1994. He is chairman of the Governors of Brighton College.

  • 9th March 2006 Professor Dr Axel A. Weber, former President Deutsche Bundesbank and a member of the European Central Bank Governing Council from 30th April 2004 - 30th April 2011.

There will be wine reception following the lecture, where there will be an opportunity to meet the guest speaker. Refreshments and nibbles will be provided.

Professor G.L.S. Shackle was Brunner Professor of Economic Science at the University of Liverpool from 1951 to 1969 and Emeritus Professor until he died in March 1992. In 1967 he was elected Fellow of the British Academy and in 1976 gave the Keynes Lecture at the British Academy.
