St Edmund's College, Cambridge

The 2008-2009 academical year sees three St Edmund's students playing a leading role in the wider University.

Siza Mtimbiri is the newly elected President of the Graduate Union to which all 6000 graduate students in the University belong. The Presidency is a sabbatical position, so for one year Siza will be interrupting his PhD in Education whilst he undertakes the role. As President, Siza is the principal financial officer of the Union and acts for and represents the Union, leading its major campaigns and initiatives and also being responsible for the administration of facilities and services provided by the Union, and chairs meetings of the Graduate Union and Executive.

Jon Dawson is Captain of CURUFC, the University Rugby Club. Jon who has played rugby for Harlequins, London Wasps and Bath played as a prop in last year's Varsity match against Oxford. He is reading Geography at St Edmund's and obtained a 2i in last summer's Tripos examinations. We wish him success when he leads out the light blues at the Varsity Match on Thursday 11th December 2008.

Henry Pelly is President of CUBC, the University Boat Club. Henry competed for GB in the Men's Quad at U23 level 2004 and won the World University Championships in the Men's Double Scull in 2006. He was also a member of the winning CUBC crew in the Stewards' Challenge Cup for Open Cox'less Fours at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2008. Henry was previously at Newcastle University before coming to Cambridge and St Edmund's to read for an MPhil in Architecture. Henry will lead his crew to the start of the Boat Race on Sunday 29th March 2009 where we hope that he avenges last year's defeat.
