Dr Jing Zhao Garland

Senior Research Associate in Department of Medicine

Dr Jing Zhao Garland read medicine at Beijing Medical University, China before completing her PhD study in renal hypertension at Churchill College, Cambridge. She spent three years as a Research Fellow in the Department of Cardiology at St. Thomas Hospital, London before returning to Cambridge in 1998 to work in the Department of Medicine. Her research focuses on issues associated with organ transplantation, with particular emphasis on ischaemia reperfusion injury and transplant vasculopathy. Dr Garland has spent her research career developing novel therapeutic strategies, involving the use of gene therapy and stem cell therapy, to repair damaged donor organs and prevent chronic rejection. She has co-authored two books on the subject and has been published in over 20 scientific journals. Dr Garland maintains research collaborations with several Chinese medical institutes and hospitals. Outside of work, she enjoys training in martial arts as a 2nd Dan Black Belt as well as swimming and travelling.
