Dr Sudhakaran Prabakaran

DBT-India Cambridge Lecturer, Department of Genetics, University of Cambridge

Dr Sudhakaran Prabakaran Ph.D. (Cantab) is a Group leader/Lecturer at the Department of Genetics, University of Cambridge. He also has a joint academic position at the Indian Institute of Science Education Research, Pune, India. 

He did his Ph.D. in schizophrenia and systems neuroscience in the University of Cambridge as a Cambridge-Nehru trust fellow, Cambridge Commonwealth Fellow, and as a member of Fitzwilliam College. He continued working in systems biology for his postdoctoral research in Harvard Medical School. Before taking up an academic position in the genetics department as a lecturer, he was an adjunct lecturer in Tufts University, a professional scientific editor for the journal, Science Signaling, and cofounded a biomedical data analysis company in Cambridge, MA.

His current research focuses on disease causing mutations in the regions of the human genome that do not code for proteins. He is also interested in STEM activities and science communication.
