Dr Victoria Rennie

Post Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Earth Sciences

Vicky Rennie is a post doctoral researcher in the Department of Earth Sciences.  Her research aims to understand the interplay between life and climate over Earth’s history, especially during large-scale reorganisations of the climate and biosphere.  These changes affect the chemistry of the ocean, which is then reflected in the chemical signatures preserved in marine microfossil shells.  She is also interested in understanding the chemical processes that occur in modern day sediments, which allow microbial life to flourish.  Vicky did both her undergraduate and PhD at Cambridge (at Selwyn and Darwin colleges, respectively), although much of her PhD work was carried out at the California Institute of Technology. Her research also lets her spend a lot of time at sea, and has taken her to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
