Mr Stephen Jolly

Fellow Commoner

Stephen Jolly has been a Fellow Commoner of St Edmund’s since 2017.  A former Fellow and Bye-Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge and Fellow of the Cambridge Judge Business School, Stephen served as the University’s Director of External Affairs & Communications for almost a decade. In 2013, Stephen was recruited to work in Government. As the UK’s Director of Defence Communications, based in the Ministry of Defence, he chaired the cross-Whitehall National Security Communications Committee, had a seat on the Government Communications Board and was instrumental in creating the Government Communications Service.  Since 2016, Stephen has been Director of the Saatchi Institute, a not-for-profit private think-tank headquartered in London.  A Visiting Fellow in the King’s College London Centre for Strategic Communications, Stephen has a research interest in psychological warfare and is a published authority on the work of Sefton Delmer.
