Admissions Secretary

St Edmund’s College is one of the 31 constituent Colleges of the University of Cambridge and admits some 270 students each year on graduate and undergraduate courses. The College is first and foremost an educational establishment and consists of an international community of 500 students representing over 80 nationalities. St Edmund’s is a mature entrant College (aged 21 and over at the point of entry for undergraduate students).

We are looking to appoint an Admissions Secretary on a permanent basis to join a small friendly team to manage the undergraduate and graduate admissions process. This consists of providing administrative support to the Undergraduate Admissions Tutor and Deputy Admissions Tutor, Directors of Studies and Tutors during the main undergraduate admissions round, running from late summer with enquiries from potential applicants to Christmas, and also during the smaller March round with limited number of subjects and applicants. The post-holder will also provide support to the Deputy Senior Tutor and Graduate Admissions Tutors in managing the graduate admissions process runs throughout the year, with peak period in spring. Supporting the Tutorial Office during busier periods at the start of the academic year and around exam time is also expected.

The successful candidate will ideally be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience, have a good understanding of Secondary and Higher Education in the UK, and appreciation of widening participation and specific issues relating to challenges faced by the mature applicant cohort. Previous experience of working in the education sector would be beneficial but not essential. You will have first-rate IT and communication skills, both written and verbal. We are looking for a positive and enthusiastic team-player, who is able to take initiative and also work autonomously under limited supervision. Flexible approach to work is expected, as the post-holder will occasionally be required to work outside the normal working week to cover for Open Days and examination sessions during occasional Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays in term-time. Time off in lieu during quieter periods is given.

The College offers a competitive benefits package including a discretionary Christmas bonus, 33 days’ annual leave (including Bank Holidays), free lunch on duty when the College kitchens are open and car parking on site if available. Use of College Gym and Library is also possible. Standard hours are 36.5 per week, typically worked between 9am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 9am-4pm on Friday, with half an hour for lunch break.
