College win for collaboration

2019-12-13

On 11 December 2019 St Edmund’s won an award for Collaboration of the Year at the Student Accommodation Conference in London alongside its partners Howard-Osborne & LGIM Real Assets. The Bursar of the College represented at the event and collected the award.

Autumn 2019 marked the opening of Mount Pleasant Halls, a significant development for the College both in being able to bring the vast majority of St Edmund’s resident members on-site, and for helping position St Edmund’s more prominently within Cambridge now that it has a new entrance on Huntingdon Road.

Previously, the site had been used as office space and had aged badly, becoming increasingly dilapidated over time. A consortium came together to develop the site into student accommodation, which is now on a lease to St Edmund’s, at the end of which the College takes complete ownership of the site. The development essentially doubles the amount of accommodation St Edmund’s is able to offer, important for its largely international community of academics who don’t have to worry about finding a place to live when they come to Cambridge. It also enlarges the footprint of the College significantly, helping to make more dynamic daily College life, and in giving members of the St Edmund’s community the full experience of life in collegiate Cambridge.

More information about the handing over to the College of ‘MPH’ can be found on the College website, as can more specific information about the accommodation within the development. Any questions about the development, please contact bursar (at) st-edmunds.cam.ac.uk.
