Mount Pleasant Halls: New Student Accommodation 2019

Brand-New City Centre Accommodation
For St Edmund's College

A hugely exciting and rare development for the College’s growing demand in high-quality, well-located accommodation. Being immediately adjacent to St Edmund’s College in an area of the City which is home to many other colleges makes it a fantastic location.

Being able to accommodate students on site allows them to become part of the college community, giving access to communal facilities and enables the college to provide more effective tutorial support. Following the opening of the building in summer 2019 the new student accommodation provides directly for St Edmund's College around 136 en-suite bedrooms and 64 studio flats for graduate students and academic staff in modern, attractive buildings. The site consists of five buildings, centred around two south facing courtyards. These range in height at street level from two to four storeys with a further top storey facing Huntingdon Road set back from the main elevation.

Excellent sized rooms with ensuite bedroom clusters between 16.9 sq m and 17.1 sq m and studios a minimum of 23 sq m (accessible bedrooms to be a minimum or 20 sq m).  Each floor is accessible by lift and included in the new facilities are kitchens, a study area, launderette and IT hub room. Cycle parking is provided on site for every student with additional visitor cycle parking, encouraging the use of sustainable transport and helping to reduce traffic in the local area.

The accessible bedrooms and studios are 'Future Accessible', meaning they are future-proofed to enable easy fitting out depending on the accessibility requirements of students.

All accommodation has been designed & finished to a high standard and features the following in specification: Ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle or wet rooms for accessible bedrooms and studios, desk and multiple storage units, kitchen facilities with dining area and soft seating in cluster flats, accessible WC on lower ground floor.

Practical Completion took place on the 9th August 2019, in good time for students and academic staff members to move in for the 2019/2020 academic year.
