Ms Gemma Long

Head of Education Quality and Policy, University of Cambridge

Gemma Long is the Head of Education Quality and Policy at the University of Cambridge, and a former advisor to the Welsh Government on quality assurance and enhancement in relation to its tertiary education reforms and the establishment of a Commission for Tertiary Education and Research. Prior to this, she worked for the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) in several roles including Assistant Director for its Concerns scheme and Lead Officer for Wales. Since 2019, she has been a member of the initial teacher education accreditation board for the Education Workforce Council (Wales), and a reviewer for both QAA and for Quality and Qualifications Ireland. She’s worked in consultancy and has published on the role of academic libraries in the quality of higher education.

Gemma holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Geoscience from Cardiff University and completed a Master’s in Education at the University of Bath, specialising in higher education.

Her professional interests centre on the student experience, the quality of education, and its assurance, enhancement, and governance.
