Director of Chapel Music

St Edmund’s College is seeking to appoint a Director of Chapel Music and Organist, commencing in Michaelmas Term 2026. This is a unique opportunity for a suitably experienced musician to lead the musical life of the only Catholic college chapel in the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
The small Chapel at St Edmund’s serves both the requirements of the College and its students and a thriving community of some 80 to 100 regular worshipers, encompassing local Cambridge residents as well as students, staff and Fellows of St Edmund’s, who attend Mass on Sunday mornings throughout the year. All important Christian Holy Days are celebrated with Mass, Vespers or other appropriate services. College events, such as Matriculation and the admission of new Fellows and Senior Members, are also held in the Chapel.
This is a part-time position for 12 hours per week for 27 weeks in the year, this is mostly a term-time only role with a few events being held outside of term. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during those 27 weeks is essential.
The Director of Chapel Music and Organist is responsible to the Dean of Chapel (Father Ed Hone) and works in consultation with him in planning all services and events in the Chapel involving music.
