Fellow helps community look to New Horizons

2019-05-29

Fellow Dr Gemma Burgess has been involved with designing the new local scheme New Horizons helping people tackle debt and housing issues to climb out of poverty. New Horizons offers life coaching and teaches money management skills transforming the lives of those it helps. Unlike other schemes, New Horizons gets out into the community visiting people in their own homes, recognising the toll difficult circumstances can have. Offering financial advice and help getting back into the job market, the scheme has pulled people back from crisis point.

Since starting 18 months ago, New Horizons has worked with 300 people across Cambridgeshire and King’s Lynn and partners with the University of Cambridge. The bespoke, individualised programmes offered by the scheme have a huge impact on those it helps, and you can read more about Danielle’s journey with the scheme in an ITV news report here.
