A faith-friendly space, open to all.
Unique among the modern Cambridge Colleges, St Edmund’s College Chapel has a Catholic foundation. Whilst the Dean, by Statute, is a Catholic priest, Fr Ed Hone provides pastoral support to everyone – of all faiths and none.
Built in 1916, this grade II listed building is known for its architectural simplicity and tranquil atmosphere. The chapel is open to all throughout the year for private prayer. Mass is celebrated on Sundays at 10.30am, during the week in Full Term on weekdays and Holy days of obligation at times announced. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is always available.
An Anglican Eucharist is celebrated twice each term by the Revd. Dr Rodney Holder and by the Rev. Shirley Holder. Details of these celebrations are listed in the chapel card. Arrangements can be made in consultation with the Dean for other Christian groups to use the Chapel.
Chapel Choir and Scola
The Chapel Choir is non-auditioned and open to all. There is also a Chapel Schola, unique among the Cambridge Colleges, which attracts some of the finest musicians in Cambridge.
Chapel events and live streaming
We run regular events and talks throughout the year, many of which are live streamed via You Tube. Full details of Mass times, other liturgical events, and guest preachers can be obtained by emailing the Dean.
Getting married at
St Edmund’s
The College Chapel is licensed for marriages and many alumni return to College to be married or have their children baptised.
Catholics need only the permission of their current parish priest. Anglicans require the Archbishop of Canterbury’s licence, arrangements for which can be made through the Rector of the nearby Parish of the Ascension.
The Dean provides personal support to all members of the College, from any faith background or none.
