Welcome to St Edmund’s College, a home from home for global talent. With over 700 students and around 250 senior academics and professional members in our community, we offer a diverse and multidisciplinary environment that allows individuals to flourish and find their true potential.
I first came to Cambridge as a student in 1987. Travelling “across the water” from Ireland, I know first-hand what it feels like to move to an unfamiliar town and country. But I quickly learnt that Cambridge is a place to make life-long friendships and to start to think about the world differently.
It is also a wonderful place to expand the mind. Cambridge stretches the intellect and pushes the boundaries of knowledge, setting the very highest of standards in staff and students alike. Colleges are where people come together to learn from each other, to forge and debate new thinking.

I am honoured today to serve as Master of St Edmund’s College – a College that has offered me the same warm welcome and exacting environment that I first encountered almost 40 years ago.
At St Edmund’s, you will join an international community of undergraduates and postgraduates from over 80 nationalities, who, as our mission statement puts it, “are bridging disciplines and cultures to solve humanity’s challenges”.
St Edmund’s provides the ideal location to live, study and socialise in Cambridge.
Our leafy 10-acre site is just a short walk from the city centre and the river Cam. Our situation means you can immerse yourself in the historic and cultural offerings of city life or relax and unwind in our tranquil setting.

Thanks to recent investment, we’re able to offer you modern facilities. From the newly refurbished library overlooking our fruit orchards to the contemporary accommodation in Mount Pleasant Halls.
There are many opportunities to get involved in student life, whether its volunteering in Eddies, the student-run bar, or taking part in our open mic nights and bops. For members with young children, we offer many family-friendly activities.
We’re also proud of our fine sporting tradition (many of our members have represented the University with great distinction) and we encourage you to follow in their footsteps or simply join one of our many sports clubs and societies.
St Edmund’s is the only College in Cambridge (and Oxford) with a post-Reformation Roman Catholic founding. As such, we are a faith-friendly college, open to all faiths and none. We encourage all members of our community to seek their higher purpose, to go into the world and serve all people and the planet we share.
I invite you to consider St Edmund’s College as your future home – a home from home that will shape your own life and the lives of others as well.
