Faith in Action: Church Responses to Ukrainian Refugees in Central and Eastern Europe
The war in Ukraine has triggered one of the largest refugee crises in Europe since World War II. Churches in Central and Eastern Europe have played a crucial role in providing humanitarian aid, support, shelter and advocacy for those fleeing the conflict. This presentation explores how different Christian denominations have responded, examining their ethical principles and policies regarding refugee support and protection. It will also address challenges churches face in balancing social responsibility and political realities. This paper not only explores how churches in Central and Eastern Europe have responded to Ukrainian refugees but also critically examines why their response has differed for other refugee groups.
