College Fellow and former Senior Tutor, Dr Helen Mason OBE, delivered a Royal Astronomical Society Prize lecture last Friday entitled ‘A Golden Age of Solar Physics’. The James W. Dungey Lecture is given annually by a distinguished and eloquent speaker on a topic in geophysics (including solar physics, solar-terrestrial physics or planetary sciences).

On the same day, Helen helped to launch an exciting new project – the Space to Earth Challenge. The Challenge is linked to the ESA/UK astronaut Tim Peake’s flight on the International Space Station in December (for six months). Helen helped welcome 170 children to the launch which was hosted by Dallas Campbell (BBC) and the Triathlon Trust. Helen provided resources for the Challenge website and also ran some workshops for the children at the event.
