Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 4-10 July

Tiny earthquakes are often detected under volcanoes prior to eruption, caused by the movement of molten rock beneath the surface.  Visit the exhibit at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition July 4th – 10th where St Edmund’s Professorial Fellow Bob White and his research team will be showcasing their current research in the explosive field of volcano seismology. They are investigating the 30,000 earthquakes that led up to the spectacular six-month Bárðarbunga-Holuhraun fissure eruption in Iceland. By studying these seismic events they are gaining a better understanding of how volcanic systems behave.
