The College has received certificates officially recognising the record-breaking efforts of our rowers’ last April.

A ten-man crew of current Eddies students set a new British and World record of 3 days 3 hours 48 minutes, as they rowed continuously for a million metres on a single indoor rower. For the record to stand the erg mechanism had to be kept spinning throughout the whole challenge. This meant quick changeovers between the rowers as they rotated in shifts over the three days – as well as some gruelling sessions in the early hours of the morning.

This is not the first time the college’s illustrious rowing history has been bolstered by a world record. Last year four Eddies rowers broke the record for the longest continual row and we’re pleased to put these new certificates alongside that record. We have a great sporting tradition at St Edmund’s; it’s a side of university life we shall be celebrating in the coming year with a number of events to mark the Year of Sport.
