St Edmund’s Students in Boat Race Wins 2016

2016-03-29

The College congratulates Luke Juckett and Nicole Abernethy on their respective victories as members of the men’s Blue Boat and the women’s Blondie crew in this year’s Cancer Research UK Boat Races. The races were held on Sunday, 27 March 2016 on the Putney to Mortlake Championship Course. Conditions on the Tideway were especially difficult with high south-westerly winds leading to very rough conditions after Hammersmith. The men’s Blue Boat’s two-and-a-half-length victory was their first win for four years. Luke Juckett was rowing in his third Boat Race and was described after the race by his President as being “the real unsung hero of the crew this year – he really brought everyone together and did a great job.” This year was the first time that Blondie (the women’s reserve boat) had rowed against Osiris (the Oxford women’s reserve boat) on the Tideway and, coxed by Nicole Abernethy, their winning margin was three and a half lengths.
