College Fellow Dr Andy Harter CBE presented the Turing Lecture 2018 this week. This annual event is the premier lecture of the British Computer Society and the Institution for Engineering and Technology, and took place in London, Glasgow, Manchester and Belfast on consecutive evenings.

Dr Harter’s lecture, “Innovation and Technology – Art or Science?” discussed some of the non-scientific ingredients that go towards creating successful and enduring technology, and drew on some of his experiences from over 30 years as a distinguished engineer, innovator and entrepreneur. He examined the role of ‘art’, in its broadest sense, and whether we can do more to appreciate and encourage it in a multi-disciplinary approach.
