Can you share a memorable experience from your time at St Edmund’s College?
St Edmund’s is a small yet wonderfully warm and widely international college, and the sense of community here is something I truly cherish. Whether it’s preparing dinner with my flatmates, meeting friends over coffee at Edspresso, or having friendly conversations with the porters, these little moments collectively shape a strong community at St Edmund’s. My Arab friends are also an integral part of this experience with the MPH Common Room becoming our regular spot to catch up after long days of work.
What values are you learning at St Edmund’s College and how do you think they are shaping you as a person?
One of the most transformative lessons I’ve learned at Cambridge is the value of staying open to new opportunities, connecting with people from diverse backgrounds, and engaging in conversations about our unique (often niche) areas of interest. Each new encounter, no matter how closely or distantly related to your field of study, can offer a fresh perspective that will enrich your journey.
What advice would you give prospective students thinking of choosing St Edmund’s College?
As the famous proverb goes, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” This holds true in every aspect of life. Whether you’re embarking on a new challenge, making a pivotal decision, or stepping into the unknown, patience and perseverance are key. Remember to celebrate the small victories along the way —they build up over time and motivate you to keep pushing forward!

Can you share a memorable experience from your time at St Edmund’s College?
I was privileged to attend the Norfolk Feast, the College’s most significant annual event which celebrates the College’s founding by the Fifteenth Due of Norfolk in 1896. I met a wealth of talented and inspiring individuals who, like me, are committed to improving the future of societies around the world.
Are there any professors, mentors, or classmates who particularly inspire or influence you? If so, how are they impacting your personal or professional development?
My supervisor, Professor Edgar Turler was an incredible help to me. In the beginning, when I reached out to him in Nigeria, he was very encouraging, and he wanted it to work, and he gave me tips on ways to write my proposal. He was also helpful in guiding me through Cambridge life.
What advice would you give prospective students thinking of choosing St Edmund’s College?
The college you choose is very important. I would encourage future students to take the time to research the different Colleges. What environment does it offer? What are its community values? St Edmund’s is a small and highly international college, where you really get to know the people who work and live here. From the catering staff to the porters, everyone is so friendly.

Why did you choose to study at St Edmund’s College?
Eddies has the best environment for mature and postgraduate life. It is out of the hustle and bustle of central Cambridge but also close enough to walk into the thick of it. It is a mature college but not stuffy in any way. It is international and welcoming. To me, St. Edmund’s represents the very best of everything at Cambridge!
Can you share a memorable experience from your time at St Edmund’s College?
I really enjoyed getting to Eddies a week or two before most students arrived. I walked the grounds, visited the chapel, and got to know the porters and other staff. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Once most of the other students arrived, I witnessed the culture of St. Edmund’s was also strong in the student body. Our international diversity and small size make for a great atmosphere during our time in Cambridge.
What advice would you give prospective students thinking of choosing St Edmund’s College?
If you want a welcoming, friendly, down-to-earth, diverse, caring, and interesting place to study at the world’s best university, look no further than St Edmund’s!
