The Head of the Charles Regatta, held annually in Boston, Massachusetts, is one of the premier events in the international rowing calendar, attracting top crews from around the world.

Last weekend (17–19 October), St Edmund’s College was proudly represented by Alyssa Nicholls (2023, PhD Medicine) and Lauren Schneiderman (2025, MPhil Obesity, Endocrinology and Metabolism), who raced with the Cambridge University Boat Club (CUBC) Women’s Championship Eights ‘B’ crew. The crew delivered a strong performance, placing 18th in a highly competitive field.

According to the race report, the crew had a “strong race down the Charles, fighting and managing to show the depth of the Cambridge women’s squad in the lead-up to the 2026 Boat Race.” Despite the course’s famously sharp bends, they gained momentum and finished with speed and determination.

Bow seat Alyssa Nicholls reflected on the race:

We had a great few days training out in Boston and ultimately had the chance to put our squad to the test against international crews, which was really exciting. I learnt to row at St Edmund’s College Boat Club and racing the winding route of the Charles river reminded me a lot of the Cam!

Congratulations to Alyssa and Lauren for representing St Edmund’s on one of the world’s biggest rowing stages.
