Visiting Postgraduate Students at the University of Cambridge

St Edmund’s College, affectionately known as “Eddies”, offers a friendly, international, and tranquil environment, ideal for postgraduate study. Our student body represents over 80 nationalities, and our peaceful 10-acre campus provides a welcome retreat from the bustle of the city centre.

All St Edmund’s students are aged 21 and over, studying at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. This distinctive feature shapes our College character and creates valuable opportunities for networking within a diverse and mature academic community.

We warmly welcome applications from visiting postgraduate students who wish to join us during their period of study or research in Cambridge.

Definition of a visiting student

Within the University of Cambridge, a visiting student is defined as a student who is registered for a degree at another institution and attends Cambridge for a period of study or supervised research as part of their home institution’s programme. Visiting students do not receive a Cambridge qualification.

Our location

St Edmund’s College is located on a leafy 10-acre campus in the desirable west of Cambridge, within easy reach of:

  • The city centre ( a short 10 minutes walk)
  • The University Library (10 minutes)
  • The Cambridge West Innovation District (15 minutes)

Accommodation

We offer a range of accommodation options, including:

  • Modern en suite rooms in Mount Pleasant Halls
  • More traditional rooms in the Norfolk Building

Status within the University

The University of Cambridge has specific guidelines governing visiting students. Full details can be found on the University website.

Who can apply

  • Visiting postgraduate students
  • European language exchange students (admitted periodically for one academic year)

Visa requirements

  • Visiting students studying in the UK for six months or less may apply for a visitor visa.
  • Longer periods of study require a student visa, administered through the International Student Office in collaboration with the relevant Faculty or Department
