MPhil Screen and Studies student Millie Chew is set to take the stage tonight in the original cabaret ‘The Devour Inn: Served with a Song.’
The show, set in a ‘musical diner’, follows four waiters navigating life as performers while serving up a selection of well-loved musical numbers. The concept leans into a familiar theatre stereotype, as Chew explains: “The Devour Inn came from the four of us wanting to play around with the ‘struggling actor who works in a restaurant’ trope. It’s a classic stereotype, and we thought it would be really funny to make a whole cabaret about it.”
What makes the production stand out is its interactive twist. “With cabarets, it’s really fun to get the audience involved, so throughout the show, we are going to ask the audience to determine who will sing next with a spin of the wheel.” Chew said.
For Chew, tonight’s performance is about energy and entertainment above all else. Asked to sum up the show, she described it in just three words: “Over the top.”
With its mix of humour, well-known musical theatre songs, and audience interaction, the one-night-only cabaret promises an engaging and completely unique night of theatre! You can get tickets via the ADC Theatre website.
