Admissions Administrator

Salary: £28,800 to £32,000

As an Admissions Administrator, you will play an important role in delivering high‑quality administrative support across the College’s admissions and enrolment activities. You’ll also be part of a wider team that supports students from their very first interaction with the College, throughout their studies and all the way to graduation.

Experience of collegiate Cambridge or admissions processes is helpful, but what matters most is your drive, your attention to detail, and your commitment to excellent service.

This role includes occasional evening and weekend work but is primarily Monday to Friday between 8/9am and 4/5pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • To support admissions processes by maintaining accurate records during each admissions cycle; compiling and interrogating historical admissions data when required.
  • Responding to admissions-related enquiries in a timely way from prospective applicants, applicants, offer-holders, their educational institutions, College staff and officers across the Collegiate University.
  • Liaise with the University’s International Student Office to help deliver the CAS issuance process and ensure immigration compliance.
  • Administer applications for College and University admissions across all five admissions cycles from the point of application to final confirmation pre-matriculation.
  • To be the first point of contact for the department directing enquiries to the appropriate resources or individual concerned.
  • Updating the College website to keep information current.
  • To support the department, deliver key activities by helping plan and deliver events for prospective applicants, applicants and offer-holders.
  • To produce communication materials for the admissions team in keeping with the values and ethos of the College. Communicate to all stakeholders as necessary in a timely and clear way.
  • To support the team and as necessary the wider College with diary and correspondence management.
  • Attend admissions-related meetings across the College and intercollegiate University as appropriate, including liaising with admissions teams and administrators in other colleges.
  • Organise travel, meeting, and hospitality arrangements, as necessary.
  • Taking minutes of meetings as necessary.
  • To support the wider College by collaborating with all departments to ensure the smooth running of the College.
  • Work with colleagues to share best practise and ensure policies are adhered to.
  • Ensure the upkeep of the College, report any problems as necessary and help to keep the College litter free.
  • Suggest and implement new ways of working and ideas, be an advocate for Continuous Improvement.
  • Complete ad hoc tasks as required.

You will be a proactive, self‑motivated individual who can work independently and use sound judgement. You’ll understand the importance of confidentiality and be confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders.

Strong organisational skills are essential, as you’ll be managing competing priorities in a busy office environment. You’ll also be comfortable working under pressure and adapting to changing demands.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience of working in a people-facing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • A self-starter who can work independently and use own initiative, seeking guidance appropriately.
  • A ‘completer finisher’ with a drive to see projects through to completion with good attention to detail.
  • Ability to make a positive contribution to the work of a small team.

 

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience working in a Higher Education setting, ideally in an admissions or student-facing office.
  • Experience of a collegiate university system.
  • Familiarity with student‑facing processes or academic administration.
  • Understanding of the student lifecycle.
  • Ability to review working practices, suggesting and implementing improvements appropriately.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of different people, including Fellows, visiting academics and other members of staff, including cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
  • Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.
