The Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts, stands as one of the premier fixtures on the global rowing calendar, attracting top international crews and elite university programmes.

At this year’s regatta, Cambridge University Boat Club (CUBC) delivered an outstanding collective performance, with three members of the St Edmund’s College community: two current postgraduate students and one alumna, making their mark on the international stage.

Fielding six crews alongside several alumni entries, CUBC achieved a podium finish in the Men’s Championship Eights, set a programme-best performance in the Women’s Championship Eights, and secured three alumni category medals. Crucially, both top Cambridge eights finished comfortably ahead of rivals Oxford, establishing strong momentum in the build-up to the 100th Women’s Boat Race and the Centenary season.

Eddies rowers leading from the front

Three St Edmund’s scholars represented Cambridge, each playing a vital role in historical results for the university:

Robbie Prosser (MPhil in Film Studies) rowed in the bow seat for the Cambridge Men’s Eight ‘A’. Racing from bow #1 down the Charles River, Prosser and his crew claimed a 3rd place podium finish out of 37 entries. Crossing the line in 13:36.084, Cambridge finished as the top university crew behind only the Dutch National Team and Harvard A, well clear of Oxford in 14th.

Maeve Heneghan (MPhil in Technology Policy) set the pace from seat two in the Cambridge Women’s Eight ‘A’. The crew delivered a programme-best performance, cutting approximately 40 seconds off their 2025 time to finish 6th out of 32 entries in 15:24.506. Finishing comfortably ahead of Oxford who placed 10th, Heneghan’s crew laid down a decisive marker for the season ahead.

Annie Wertheimer (2025, MPhil in Education – ACE) lined up in the bow seat for the Crabtree Women’s Alumnae Eight, driving the crew to a second place silver medal in the alumni category behind only the US training entries.

Looking ahead to The Boat Race 2027

Representing St Edmund’s on one of rowing’s biggest international stages provides a brilliant foundation as the squad turns its attention back to home waters. With trial races and winter fixtures on the horizon, our athletes have set the benchmark high for the months ahead.

Congratulations to Robbie, Maeve, Annie, and all who represented Cambridge in Boston.
