Boat Race 2018 crews announced with Eddies student making final cut for Men’s squad

2018-02-27

The Cambridge University Men’s and Women’s Boat Race and Reserve Race crews were officially announced yesterday (26 February) ahead of the eagerly anticipated Cancer Research UK Boat Race 2018 on 24 March. This will be the 164th Boat Race between the universities of Cambridge and Oxford since the competition began in the mid-nineteenth century.

Preparation for selection to the Cambridge Boat Race and Reserve squads is tough, with rowers undergoing a rigorous land- and water-based training programme from the start of the academic year. This is doubly challenging with the various academic commitments!

The College has a long and distinguished rowing tradition and is pleased to announce that this year’s Men’s Boat Race crew will include current St. Edmund’s student Robert Hurn (MPhil Nuclear Energy, 2017). Rob has already demonstrated athletic success while studying at Yale and won silver as part of the Great Britain Under-23 crew at the Rowing World Championships 2016. The College extends its congratulations to him and wishes the Cambridge crews the best of luck for the forthcoming race.

The Cancer Research UK Boat Race will take place on Saturday, 24 March 2018 in London with the Women’s Boat Race starting at 4:31pm followed by the Women’s Reserve Boat Race at 4:46pm. The Men’s Reserve Boat Race will start at 5.01pm followed by the Men’s Boat Race at 5.32pm.
