The VHI produces and disseminates research across the broadest range of disciplines. We do this through our research seminars, projects and publications; via our themed lectures and our international conferences and workshops; and by promoting student interest and research.
The Institute is interested in working with academics in any discipline. Researchers typically come to the VHI to pursue high level academic research, or equivalent projects connected with our mission statement. If you might be interested in working with us, please contact us.
Current Research Projects
The VHI is dedicated to academic innovation and impact in the contemporary world. Its mission is to harness the resources of Catholic thought and traditions to help build a world in which the inherent, infinite dignity of each person can be recognised, nourished and celebrated.
Through impactful initiatives and collaborations, the VHI seeks to break barriers that cause division or marginalisation, in order to help fractured humanity heal and flourish. This wider work falls under one or more of our four main areas of research:
- Arts and Culture
- Health and Wellbeing
- Technology
- Global Justice
Among the projects currently being developed are:
Shakespeare and the Common Good?
Disability and Knowledge
Fragility, Flourishing and AI Ethics

The VHI is simply one of the most exciting and innovative Christian interdisciplinary research centers in Cambridge and the wider UK. It is one of the jewels in the crown of the dynamic Cambridge theological scene, its public lectures quickly becoming 'unmissable'.
Research Seminars
At the core of the VHI’s innovative interdisciplinary research are our regular Research Seminars, in which our members present and discuss their work. Rooted in our research associates’ leading work in their respective fields, the seminars are designed to generate new perspectives within and across disciplines, by providing a unique context for open-ended discussion and shared exploration.
