Alumni Benefits

St Edmund’s has three sea-worthy punts (thanks to your generosity during our punts crowdfunder!) that are housed in St John’s College. We are one of the only Colleges that allow alumni free hire of the punts through the season (April-November). If you are interested in reserving a punt, email the Development Office to make arrangements.

If you find yourself back in Cambridge, the College offers accommodation to alumni should you wish to stay at St Edmund’s. The College also rents out spaces for events & conferences which you can find out more about by e-mailing the Events & Conferences Team.

Alumni and friends of St Edmund’s are welcome to stay in College guest rooms at their own expense for up to five nights per year, subject to availability.

The Development Office offers a range of events throughout the year from dinners and events in College, to socials in London, to regional events throughout the year as our Fellows travel to different places and where alumni are able to organise gatherings in their new homes. We are also excited to be able to continue to bring some virtual events to alumni around the world.

At Cambridge, the MA is conferred by right on holders of the BA degree of the University and on certain other senior members and is not available as a postgraduate qualification.

Possession of the MA, or any other Cambridge masters degree or doctorate, confers membership of the University Senate. This gives the right to:

• participate in Discussions (part of the University’s decision-making process)
• vote in the election of a new Chancellor or High Steward
• borrow books from the University Library

This method of conferment of the MA also exists at the universities of Oxford and Dublin.

A Bachelor of Arts may be admitted to Master of Arts not less than six years from the end of their first term of residence, provided that a supplicat for the latter degree may only be entered after the former degree has been conferred.

Someone who qualified for the BA but has never had it conferred cannot be entered for the MA, even if the necessary time has passed since the end of their first term of residence, unless and until the BA has been conferred on them.  You cannot have the BA and MA conferred during the same ceremony.
