Syed Waqas Haider Shah first matriculated here at St Edmund’s in 2019, when he began his doctoral studies in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering. Since then, he went on to achieve the prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship to support his research at the IMDEA Networks Institute in Madrid. Now, he returns to Cambridge with a second MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship, making him the first Pakistani, and likely first South Asian, researcher to receive the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship Twice.
The MSCA Fellowship, funded by the European Commission, is one of the most competitive and respected research programmes in Europe, designed to support researchers conducting impactful and innovative research projects across a variety of disciplines.
Dr Haider’s previous work focused on the effects of aging wireless channel information and on designing practical, low-complexity signal processing techniques for future communication systems. Building on this, his current research focuses on Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), an emerging technology expected to play a key role in future 6G wireless networks.
