Prof Maria Burke Headshot

Prof Maria Burke, Bye-Fellow of St Edmund’s College, was invited to attend a parliamentary evidence meeting on artificial intelligence at the House of Lords on Monday 26 January 2026. The session, the first AI All-Party Parliamentary Group meeting of the year, examined emerging AI technologies — including agentic systems, quantum–AI interfaces, and synthetic data — and considered their implications for the UK’s economy, society, scientific leadership, and public services.

The meeting brought together internationally recognised experts in AI research and policy. Prof Burke was invited to participate in the discussion and engage with speakers and policymakers. The session marked a particularly timely and significant moment in national conversations about the future direction of AI technologies and their governance, and an important opportunity for College engagement with emerging policy debates.
