Salary: £32,000 to £35,000 dependant on experience

Location: Cambridge, St Edmunds College

Contract type: Full Time, 2 Year FTC

Do you have excellent organisation and planning skills with the ability to lead a small team? If so the role of Tutorial Supervisor allows you to work in a supportive, friendly organisation whilst learning great new skills.

As a Tutorial Supervisor you will motivate a team of administrators to ensure comprehensive support for students from their initial interactions with the College, through their time here, until they graduate from the University.

Job responsibilities

  • Line manage and motivate a team of ESAs, ensuring their engagement and professional development align with individual needs and aspirations.
  • Act as Deputy Head of Tutorial in their absence.
  • Supervise and oversee key tasks and processes throughout the student lifecycle, including workload planning for the team of administrators.
  • Collaborate independently with various College teams and spearhead small-scale operational projects, including resource planning and delivery.
  • Regularly review procedures to ensure compliance with student lifecycle timelines, Tutorial and College operational objectives, and updates from the University.
  • Be as the primary point of escalation for ESA queries within the Tutorial team, directing them to appropriate resources or individuals as needed.
  • Support departmental activities year-round, including new student onboarding, commencement activities, examinations, degree conferrals, and support for College Tutors, Directors of Studies, and others involved in educational, enrichment, and well-being initiatives.
  • Assist the Head of Tutorial Operations, Head of Admissions, and Director of Wellbeing in coordinating team resources for large-scale operational projects.
  • Implement continuous process improvement initiatives as directed by the Tutorial management team or external audits, updating documentation, policies, and procedures accordingly.
  • Foster team resilience through regular review of work rotation, shadowing opportunities and coverage during annual leave.
  • Provide support to various College departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Ensure adherence to Health & Safety policies and prioritize safety measures.
  • Undertake additional ad hoc tasks as required.

The successful candidate

  • Demonstrated experience in supervising and motivating teams, ideally within educational or administrative environments, or the evident desire and potential to excel in such a role.
  • Experience in workload planning and resource coordination is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners to achieve common goals.
  • Experience in working with diverse stakeholders within an educational institution would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, propose solutions and implement improvements.
  • Experience in process improvement initiatives is preferred.
  • Capacity to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to respond to unforeseen challenges and prioritise tasks accordingly.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in leading small-scale operational projects.
  • Proven ability to make decisions confidently and exercise good judgment.
  • Familiarity with the student lifecycle within an educational institution, including admissions, examinations, and degree conferrals would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures related to education administration is desirable.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement, including staying updated on best practices in education management and administration.

  • Excellent organisation and planning skills, being able to identify gaps in the operational flow and escalate them accordingly.
  • Strong time-management with the capacity to oversee multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders including staff, students, and external partners.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing procedures, documentation and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organisational objectives.
  • A collaborative attitude with a commitment to fostering teamwork and supporting colleagues across departments.
  • Showcased emotional intelligence abilities.
  • An empathetic approach when engaging with both students and staff.
  • Understanding of health and safety policies and procedures, with a commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of staff and students.
  • Familiarity with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) requirements and principles.
  • Knowledge of data management practices is advantageous.
