Following an election process at the meeting of the Governing Body on 22 February, the College is pleased to announce that the Vice-Master Elect is Dr Philip McCosker.

Dr McCosker has been a Fellow of St Edmund’s since 2015, when he was appointed Director of the Von Hügel Institute where his research focuses on historical, philosophical, and constructive theology, frequently in connection with the Catholic traditions.

Philip received his theological formation at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, and Yale. He is an affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of Divinity in Cambridge as well as being Director of Studies in Theology at St Edmund’s, Magdalene College and Murray Edwards College.

He brings to the role previous experience as Deputy Master  of St Benet’s Hall in Oxford, as well as the successful leadership of the Von Hügel Institute. Which, in addition to an increasingly popular and diverse series of events and lectures, is launching an ambitious fundraising campaign to mark its 30^th anniversary and seeks to endow the Institute and ensure its future success.

Professor Mike Herrtage, who has been a Fellow of the College for 28 years and has held the post of Vice-Master since 2007, is due to retire from the Fellowship at the end of this academic year.

Dr McCosker’s term of office will take effect from 1 October 2018.
