Naming Ceremony of ‘The Luzio Building’, Sunday 12th June

2022-06-29

On Sunday 12th June, alumni, Fellows, and members of the College were invited to attend the Luzio Building Naming Ceremony at St Edmund’s College.

The event was an opportunity for those who know and have worked with Professor Paul Luzio to celebrate his important contributions to the College, with speeches from the Master, Catherine Arnold OBE, Former Master Rev Dr Geoffrey Cook, and Prof Paul and Mrs Jane Luzio.

In 2019, the Fellows of St Edmund’s voted to re-name the Library Building ‘The Luzio Building’, in recognition of Paul’s long service to the College, first as a Fellow, then Senior Tutor and as Master from 2004 to 2014. The renaming also recognises the many ways in which Jane Luzio has served the St Edmund’s community. Paul and Jane both continue to be active members of the College, with Paul being an Honorary Fellow, and Jane a Senior Member.

Professor Luzio is also an Emeritus Professor of Molecular Membrane Biology. From 2002-2012 he was Director of the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research and from 2012-2014 he was Deputy Head of the School of Clinical Medicine.
