St Edmund’s students selected for the 2015 Boat Race

2015-03-30

On Saturday 11th April 2015 at 5.50pm, four St Edmund’s students will be in the Cambridge University crew lining up on the stake boat at Putney for the start of the 161st BNY Mellon Boat Race against Oxford. The crew will be led by St Edmund’s student Alex Leichter, this year’s Cambridge University Boat Club (CUBC) President, who will be the first Austrian to row in the Boat Race.  The Blue Boat will also include from St Edmund’s three members of last year’s Blue Boat, Luke Juckett, Matt Jackson and Josh Hooper. The 2015 light blue crew are just over 5kg per man heavier than their dark blue opponents.

Exactly one hour before the men’s Boat Race, the Oxford and Cambridge women’s Blue Boats will race on the Tideway for the very first time.  Although there will be no St Edmund’s students in this year’s women’s race, a St Edmund’s women’s crew did row on the Tideway very recently, racing as a novice crew in the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race and being creditably placed 215th out of 300 entries.  Full results can be found at http://www.wehorr.org/results.htm.
